Running Gear to Help You Rock

From clothing and apparel to fitness trackers and watches, there’s a lot of cool stuff that runners can buy to enhance their running experience.

Many of these items can get expensive. But let’s share some of the basic items that will come in handy as you prepare to Rock the Block.

Running Storage – Water, energy bar, car keys, ID, cell phone, headphones and cash are all things runners carry with them at races. You’ll want something to secure these items while you run. Runners World shares the Best Gear for Storage.

Running App – Keep track of your workouts and goals with a running app. Not sure which one to download? Read our post, Five of Our Favorite Running Apps.

Running Watch – If you’re not interested in running with your phone or other technology then you could invest in a running watch to keep track of your time and heart rate.

Running Shoes – It’s extremely important that you have the proper footwear for running. You need to invest in a good pair of running shoes. Read our post, How to Find the Right Shoes to Rock the Block.

Running Socks – You also need a good pair of running socks to keep from getting blisters. Synthetic socks will wick sweat away and stay in place while you run. You’ll notice the difference when you run in comfortable socks.

Running Tunes – Upbeat tunes will help keep you motivated to reach the finish line. Runners world put together a new playlist for the month of April. Check it out or explore other music apps and create your own playlists.

Foam Roller and The Stick – These awesome tools help to massage your muscles after your run.

Indiana weather will often determine what type of gear or clothing you need.

Spring and Fall – You could probably get by with a long sleeve shirt and running pants. You might want to keep your hat and gloves around just in case the temperature drops.

Summer – You’ll want to wear sweat-wicking, lightweight and loose clothing during the summer. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen during those long runs in the hot sun.

Winter – You’ll want to layer up with a hat, gloves, long sleeves and a lightweight running jacket or sweatshirt. If you’re running of an evening and it’s dark outside you’ll want to wear reflective gear.
